Russia
Russia is the largest country in Eurasia spanning 17,125,191 square kilometers across both Europe and Asia. Bordering sixteen different countries and having eleven different time zones, Russia is also the largest country in the world by landmass. Civilization in this region emerged around the 5th century AD which later developed into powerful empires such as the Russian Empire. With such a large country, Russia is home to a wide range of ethnic backgrounds and religions. The most dominant religion in the country is Russian Orthodoxy which is a form of Christianity. Some of the major ethnic groups include Russian, Tatar, and Chechen. Russia also launched the first satellite into space as well as the first human into space, these feats were accomplished during the Cold War era when the country was the Soviet Union. Famous leaders like Catherine the Great, Vladimir Lenin, and Joseph Stalin have contributed to Russia’s long and turbulent history. Considered to be one of the more powerful countries in the world, its current leader Vladimir Putin looks to advance Russia into modern times as a world superpower.
