Eurasia Center Interns/Research Assistants 2018
Paris is a senior at the George Washington University. She is majoring in International Affairs with a concentration in Security Policy and a minor in Russian Language and Literature. This summer she took a course on terrorism at King’s College London. Paris is interested in the political and security relationship between the United States and Russia.
Josephine Freund is junior at The George Washington University from Los Angeles, California. She is majoring in History and minoring in Russian Language & Literature. Josephine speaks Russian, Persian, Spanish, and Hebrew. She also has speaking experience in Czech, Arabic, and Turkish. She is eager to her pursue her interests in Middle Eastern, European, and Eurasian affairs while at the Eurasia Center.
William Kinsman is a senior and political science major at GWU. His field of interest is that of the former Soviet Union especially pertaining to the regional politics of Caspian Sea nations as well as central Asian states. His interest in the Soviet world is buoyed by further interests in Russian culture, art and architecture. He is currently doing research on Central Asia and its relationship with Russia.
Lars Lindland is a Junior at George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs, with a major in International Affairs concentrating in Security Policy and Environmental Studies and a minor in Geography. While his father was in the military, he lived in Europe for 6 years, fostering a love for the continent and a lasting desire to be professionally involved in US-Europe relations. He is currently doing research on the European Union.
Originally from Provo, Utah, Kate is a junior at American University. She is majoring in International Studies with a concentration in Peace, Global Security, and Conflict Resolution as well as a regional focus on Russia/Eurasia, and is also minoring in Psychology. She is particularly interested in researching issues concerning peace theory and surrender, as well as how policies of Russification under Stalin exacerbated pre-existing ethnic tensions in the North Caucasus. She is currently studying both Russian and French, and looks forward to reaching fluency in both.
Dakota Morrow is a senior majoring in Peace studies and Sustainability. His focus in school centers around refugee rights, and ongoing sustainability issues. Growing up in South Africa, Dakota has a vested interest in post-apartheid struggle in South Africa, and the ongoing human rights issues faced in sub-Saharan Africa. A lover of the outdoors, Dakota is a part of the outdoor group at GW and is involved with GW Radio. He is currently doing research on the history of the Eurasia Center.
Alexander Pearson is a junior at American University and is originally from Illinois. He is majoring in International Relations with a minor in Mandarin Chinese. During the Summer before his Sophomore year, Alexander took a language immersion program in Beijing. He has been studying the language for 5 years now, from high school to university. Now, he is very passionate towards cross-cultural communications between the US and East Asia. He hopes to become both fluent in Mandarin and to be able to work abroad.
Devyani is sophomore at the George Washington University. She is majoring in International Affairs and Peace Studies with a concentration in Africa. Devyani is particularly interested in how colonialism has affected the civil society development in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Devyani has been learning French for five years and hopes to conduct field research pertaining to refugee camp economic and social development. She is also interested in South Asia.
Abby is a Junior at the George Washington University. She is majoring in International Affairs with a concentration in Asia, and double minoring in Arabic and History. Through her studies, Abby has become especially interested in U.S-China relations, U.S base issues in Okinawa as well as the One Belt One Road Initiative. She is currently doing research to assist the upcoming Silk Road Summit in Congress next September. Her efforts are also concentrated on supporting the Eurasia Center's educational program with China.
Spencer Wong is a current graduate student at The George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs, studying Security Policy Studies. He recently graduated from GWU, majoring in International Affairs, with regional concentrations in Europe and Asia, and minoring in History and Political Science. He is interested in the bilateral security relationship between Russia and China and China’s trade relationship with the European Union. He is also interested in the political dynamics of Central and Eastern Europe and China’s OBOR.
Tony Wang is a junior at Manhattan College. He is majoring in Political Science and minoring in Communications. He has a passion for Government and is intrigued by the relations that the US has with foreign countries such as China and Japan. Being born as an ABC (American-born Chinese), Chinese culture and values were basically there from the beginning due to his parents' and their desire to keep traditions alive in this foreign land. Although he is articulate in Chinese, he still can't be compared with the Native Chinese, in terms of fluency. He can also speak Japanese. .
Jeremiah is a freshman at American University School of International Service. He is deeply interested in economics, especially international trade. One area he wishes to research is the trade relationship between India and the United States. After his undergraduate degree, Jeremiah hopes to pursue either a master's degree or a position at a supranational organization such as the World Bank or IMF. Jeremiah has done extensive research on the importance of the Silk Road trade and investment for the Eurasia Economic Union. Currently he is doing research on economic activity within Eurasia.
Louisa Saakian is a recent graduate of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. At GU, Louisa majored in International Politics with a concentration in International Security, and minored in Russian language. Her interests include U.S.-Russian relations, Russia’s security interests/ practices in the Caucasus, and the role of nuclear weapons in international security, among other things. As well as being proficient in Russian, she is a native Eastern Armenian speaker
Qiuxu Li graduated from Georgetown Law Center. She focus on trade and investments between the U.S. and Asia. She is self-motivated, intelligent, talented, and detail-oriented. In the future, she hopes she will work in law firms or organizations as a high-profile attorney devoted to U.S.- Asia trade and investments. She has done a lot of research for the Eurasia Center and the Eurasian Business Coalition.
